Concrete Overlays

Concrete Overlays

Interior overlay feature

The carpet floor in this Denver condo was ruined from water damage.  The home owner wanted stained concrete because of its low maintenance and durability.  She also would never have to worry about water damage again.  Unfortunately the existing concrete was not a good candidate for this specific application because of a rough finish.  We tore out the carpet and ground the concrete down to a smooth profile using 7″ grinders with dust shrouds attached to vacuums for dust control.  Once the prep was done we put down two coats of smooth interior overlay mix.  There are a lot of coloring options when we do overlays.  We can use water based or reactive (acid) stains, or we can add pigments into the cement mix before we hard trowel it onto the floor, or both.  Some clients prefer multicolored floors, or like to incorporate scored  patterns or borders into the design.  This home owner chose two integral colors. The first coat was a taupe and the second coat was a ivory.  We sealed the floor with an solvent based acrylic sealer and then waxed it with 4 coats of high sheen industrial was.  She loves the finished product and so do I.
